We interviewed Abdullah Magdy, creator of Digital SAT Blueprint, to learn how Kotobee helped him transform his printed SAT prep book into a more engaging and interactive digital resource.

The Challenge

Tell us about yourself and the nature of your work

I am an English educator and SAT specialist with over 12 years of experience in international education. Currently, I lead SAT preparation at Dar Al-Fikr International School, where I use a structured, data-driven approach to help students master Reading, Writing, and evidence-based reasoning.

I am also the creator of Digital SAT Blueprint, an interactive platform that is designed to support adaptive SAT practice and performance tracking. With a master’s degree in Teaching English from Ain Shams University and advanced certifications from Cambridge University, my work combines classroom instruction with digital innovation.

My goal is to help students navigate the demands of the Digital SAT through practicing critical reading, analytical writing, and strategic test preparation.

What challenges did you face before using Kotobee?

Before Kotobee, my SAT materials were spread across multiple tools and platforms, which made the learning process harder to manage for both students and instructors. I relied on separate tools for quizzes, vocabulary practice, reading passages, and assignments, which meant the students had to constantly move between PDFs, external links, and disconnected activities instead of learning in one organized environment.

While these tools handled basic tasks, they were not designed to support a complete SAT preparation workflow with interactive practice, structured feedback, and consistent progress tracking. Managing updates across different platforms also became time-consuming and difficult to maintain.

Another major concern was content protection. Since many of the materials were shared through PDFs and open links, there was always a risk of unauthorized sharing and piracy. I needed a way to bring everything together into one secure platform that could provide a more interactive SAT-style approach while also protecting my work and creating a smoother experience for students.

“Another major advantage of Kotobee is enabling me to track students’ progress. Being able to see how they interacted with the material helped me identify learning gaps, monitor improvement, and provide more targeted support throughout the course.”

What potential solutions did you explore that didn't work out?

Before using Kotobee, I explored several alternatives to create a more structured interactive digital environment for my book, but each option had certain limitations.

One option was Google Classroom and Drive, which was fine for distributing chapters, assignments, and practice sets, but the experience still felt disconnected. Because the passages, quizzes, and explanations existed separately, there was no way I could embed questions directly into the learning material.

I also experimented with interactive PDFs and design tools like Canva to create more visually appealing content. While the materials looked polished, they remained static. My students were able to read the content, but they couldn't truly engage with it. More importantly, I was missing the built-in analytics and progress tracking that are so critical for high-stakes exam prep.

As a result, my content continued to exist across multiple disconnected formats, which made it difficult to scale the program or get a clear picture of how my students were actually performing.

The Solution

How did you hear about Kotobee?

It was recommended to me by ChatGPT.

What drove you to choose Kotobee?

What drove me to choose Kotobee was its ability to turn my printed SAT prep book into a secure, interactive digital platform. I wanted the students to actively engage with the material instead of simply reading static pages, while still preserving the structure and academic depth of the original book.

I could integrate questions directly into reading passages, create SAT-style practice activities, and design a more authentic learning flow that felt much closer to the actual exam experience.

Another major advantage of Kotobee is enabling me to track students’ progress. Being able to see how they interacted with the material helped me identify learning gaps, monitor improvement, and provide more targeted support throughout the course.

Finally, security and scalability were also extremely important. Since the project started as a printed book, I was worried about unauthorized distribution. Kotobee gave me a secure platform to publish my work, and gave me full control over who could access its content.

What specific aspect of your ebook are you most proud of?

The part of the project I’m most proud of is the interactive exercise section at the end of each chapter. It turns what would normally be passive reading into a fully measurable learning experience.

Since every question is designed to behave like a real Digital SAT item, and each response is automatically linked to a detailed performance report, students receive a full breakdown of their skills, from grammar conventions to sentence structure. Instead of just seeing a 'right or wrong' mark, they get a question-by-question analysis and a summary that highlights exactly where they need to focus. For example, if a student is struggling with specific grammar concepts or sentence structure questions, the system immediately points them toward those weaker areas.

This mirrors the actual logic of the Digital SAT, where success is about understanding patterns in your own performance.

I’m really proud that the ebook has now evolved from a traditional printed resource into a full learning process where students can learn, practice, track their progress, and improve over time.

The Results

What metrics do you use to measure the success of your project? Has Kotobee affected those metrics in any way?

I measure success by student growth and engagement rather than just sales. The most important metric is the improvement in SAT Reading and Writing scores, which I track through diagnostic tests and the interactive exercises at the end of each chapter. I focus on paying close attention to recurring mistakes, skill development, and overall improvement over time.

Since moving to Kotobee, the results have been undeniable. My materials are now used by over 450 students across multiple schools in Saudi Arabia. In that time, our average SAT Reading and Writing scores jumped from 550 to approximately 680, placing our students well above the global average of 520.

Aside from the scores, engagement has noticeably improved. Because the platform is interactive, I can see students actively completing chapters and revisiting weak areas. It is no longer just a self-study resource; it is now a core part of the school curriculum.

The feedback from the students has been incredibly rewarding. They frequently call it the most structured SAT resource they’ve used, specifically praising the interactive exercises and detailed performance reports. Interestingly, the impact has gone beyond English, with many students even requesting a similar resource for Math after using Digital SAT Blueprint, which I find especially meaningful since I am not a math teacher.

The Future

What are your plans for the future?

My focus for the coming period is on expanding the reach of this project and establishing it as a leading resource for Digital SAT prep.

First, I plan to expand distribution across more schools and learning institutions in Saudi Arabia and beyond. My goal is to grow the platform from a specialized tool into a widely adopted classroom solution.

I also plan to continue refining the content. By using student performance data, I can improve the interactive exercises, expand the range of SAT skills covered, and enhance the reporting and feedback tools so the platform can better respond to student needs and changes in the exam itself.

Another important goal for me is building a dedicated teacher-support layer that makes it easier for educators to integrate Digital SAT Blueprint into their own classrooms, track their students' progress, and customize learning pathways for different groups of students.

Ultimately, I want Digital SAT Blueprint to continue growing beyond being just an ebook and evolve into a widely used interactive platform that helps students prepare more confidently and effectively for the Digital SAT.
